Post-Draft Drawing Thoughts
The West will Rule in 08'!
-
Mark it down on your calendars. Week 2: Adrian Peterson vs. LaDainian Tomlinson (Round 1). That's the first of two meetings this season between Upbeat Tempo & Boozemeisters, both of whom just happen to own the top two selections in the upcoming draft. That game and the rematch in week 12 should give some insight on which back really is king of Fantasy Football.

The winners of this drawing were all the teams in the "(L)east division, because, if the first round goes true to form (it rarely does) than those five teams will only have to face Peterson, Tomlinson, Westbrook, & Brady once apiece during the season. That's because all those players are projected to go to the West, which owns four of the first five draft picks overall.
-
In fact, six of the first seven picks were awarded to teams in the playoffs last season, furthering the argument that perhaps, teams that struggle should be awarded higher picks the following season automatically. Needless to say, the rich got richer.

You have to feel a little sorry for Sammy's Boiz, she was already an underdog coming into this season, playing in a division with far more experienced owners (who have played in a combined ten playoff games & two Fantasy Bowls). Now following the drawing, it gets even tougher for the league's only female, as she has (by far) the lowest pick in her division at #9.

To me there were six blue chip sure-fire players worthy of being selected in the first round, so I'm pretty pleased that I'll have the opportunity to select one of them. Incidentally, for what it's worth, I am the only owner in our league that has taken a quarterback in the first round every season but one. Hmm.

The real "wild card" of the first round is ThunderPumpers at the #4 spot. The defending champion is known to be infatuated with running back Clinton Portis, who helped him win the title last season. Would he reach for Portis that high? Doesn't seem likely, but I wouldn't rule it out either, from what I've heard.
-
Tom Brady will be the first Quarterback selected, but it probably won't be in the top five overall, since none of those owners picking in the top five are known for taking a QB early. However, don't expect Brady to fall any lower than #7 overall.

Lastly, I would say that right now it's about a 60-65% chance that Upbeat Tempo will select Adrian Peterson first overall. I think the golden opportunity to redeem himself for having traded away the star rookie last season (for little in return) will be too tempting to pass up. Just as it was for me two years ago when I too, passed on L.T. for the chance to reacquire Larry Johnson instead. History has a way of influencing our future endeavors. | | Posted by JSM80 at 2:47 AM - | |
